Thanks for repeating all the tired misrepresentations of the Est Training. The only confrontational aspect of the training was you confronting you, looking deeply at your life and experiencing what worked and what didn’t work in your life. While it was a personal experience, the fact that over 200 other trainees were there with you to lend support was very meaningful. Est and Landmark have been offering weekend seminars for 41 years and over 1 million people have done the programs offered by Werner Erhard and have achieved outstanding results in their life. I know I have. It is so easy to stand above the battle and call other people names, yet the bottom line is that, not having taken any of the courses, you basically don’t know what you are talking about.

The training could be painful times, but at the end it was a joyful experience in which most everyone experienced that who they are is more than a body and more than a mind, it is an eternal being powerful enough to transform the quality of their life. I assisted in over ten trainings and it was inspiring to see how people’s lives changed from the beginning of the program until the end.

Like many Est graduates, I was not “wildly enthusiastic” at first. It took me several months before I realized how far I had come since I did the Training. It was only then that I spoke to people close to me about how valuable it was. Now both of my children have done The Landmark Forum as well as their wives and have benefited immensely. Neither they nor I have ever “spouted jargon”. It is patently false that Werner was a child molester. The false charges on the 60 Minutes program were all retracted, yet they were damaging to Werner’s reputation and resulted in threats to his life from Scientology. Indeed, Werner has lectured at Harvard University and others on the subject of integrity, of which he is an outstanding example.

The training was a process of freeing people from the past rather than wallowing in it. The training taught no new belief but its aim was to allow each trainee to take hold of one’s mind – in 60s jargon – to blow the mind so what is left is an experience of the being, whole and complete and satisfied. It was the first step toward the realization of a higher consciousness, a deeper awareness of one’s place in the universe.

Werner could have written books or gone on the lecture tour. Rather he engaged people directly and have them look and see the cause of their life not working. Werner had the ability to turn people on to their own strength and to allow people to see the possibilities in life. I’m sorry that it is so difficult for you to understand how the training worked and how people were supported in reaching their full potential.

    Thank you for your remarks.

I am aware that the daughters recanted their accusations, but, in a lawsuit against the San Jose Mercury News, Celeste Erhard did not dispute the accuracy of the accusations. The lawsuit was thrown out. She also claimed she lied on 60 minutes in hopes of a $2 million payment for a book deal. So it seems that the apple does not fall far from the tree.

I can only tell you that my own experience with est graduates has been mostly very unpleasant. I have a very good friend who went through Landmark and he is still a wonderful person, amazingly.

I find the whole “human potential” movement most distasteful – a bunch of greedy scammers, the realm over which Werner Erhard towers like a craven king.

It really doesn’t matter what you or any one else think about Werner, his programs, or the human potential movement. What matters is the results. I took the est training in 1974 and worked with Werner for seven years. I can honestly say that the training allowed me to completely turn around the quality of my life. In the process, my relationship with Werner was the most nurturing, most productive relationship I have ever had with another human being.

With all due respect, I think that if you would get off your position and do The Landmark Forum yourself, you would discover that your views on this matter have little relationship to reality.

Listening to this recording by Knox left me with the same sort of akward feeling one gets when you sit down on a park bench and a complete stranger starts to rant about how terrible their EX is. You have no pre-conception about the person they are talking about, yet they are portrayed in such a one dimensional way you are skeptical and eventually annoyed. After a few minutes you find another park bench. I am glad audio boo only lasts 5 minutes because I was about to get up and move to another bench.

I am familiar with Werner Erhard, the ideas associated with him, as well as the courses, staff and customers. Nothing you have said describes in any way of my experience of this topic. All I observed around anything to do with Werner Erhard was good every day normal people with a shared interest in having a greater existence on earth for all people.

Werner Erhard is a genius and there are millions of loving grateful testimonials across the world. Knox I am amazed at how fluently you know so little!

Well, thanks for the kind words and suggestions. My experience with est graduates was different. I have a good friend who was a friend to one of Erhardt’s daughters. All the accusations are true. He was, and is, an awful human being.

It is usually a “good friend of a friend ” when a person like you wants to casually spew their gossip on the internet as if they are saying something real or even close to real. Like gossip blog’s “sources”, this is the language of internet bullsh-tters.

And Knox, if you are in some elevated position of superiority to label others “awful human beings” and “rubes” , what does that make you? Some lilly white good person, a not-“awful human being”?, never a “rube”?

I’m not a tax-cheating child molester. As I mentioned, the daughter did not recant her accusations of molestation in court in her lawsuit against the SJ Mercury-Times. That would be the lawsuit Erhard supporters wave as proof that the accusations were false. Therefore, the article containing the accusations stands.

Also, that is correct, never a rube!

I don’t really care that much about all of this. I’ve said my piece.

THANK YOU KNOX…. I too know a friend…..who worked with WE …and tried to do his own `spin’ of this noxious, dangerous self-transformation work…WHY do people like it? Get it? He explained to me simply this observation which WE and others know… all of us no matter how accomplished have an inner insecurity. Beat people down enough and then reward them and they are grateful!! THAT’s why MAslows dog experiments work; intermittent reinforcement,… I took the Forum,,, and est ….and felt myself `losing’ myself… THANK GOD I have a solid center so I did not.

Are there any programs similar to Forum going on in present day? I am curious about Werner Erhard in the present?

I have done the EST training in the mid 80’s and I appreciate the purpose to live our lives with freedom. What I did not like was the intense control people. I did not like that they did not let people go to the bathroom. This defeated the whole purpose of what really EST was about. I did not appreciate the volunteers standing outside the door questioning why someone is late. Sometimes things happen that is beyond our control. This was so uncalled for. EST is about having a self love and inner peace. This policing was irrelevant.
