The story of the “Eye of the Needle” was Jesus’ metaphor about humility and detachment from wealth. There was the claim that a small gate through the walls into Jerusalem was so narrow that a camel could only be unloaded and brought to its knees to enter; the wealthy merchants couldn’t enter without leaving their goods behind, et cet. It’s a good one in the Gospel According to Luke. (I think).
